What did we learn?

About the problem

  • What is corruption?

  • There are different types of corruption (nepotism, influence peddling, illegal use of information...)

  • What are “Bribes”?

  • It is a normalized phenomenon

  • For it to exist, at least two people are needed.

  • Beyond the immediate benefit, by being corrupt you feed a system that ends up hurting us all.

  • It is a "tax" that affects those with the least, diverting resources intended for the majority of the population and concentrating them on a few.

  • Corruption exists in all countries but to different degrees.

  • Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Indices

  • Politicians have no incentive to end corruption; it's in their interest to keep it going.

About the solution

  • The three pillars for building a corruption-free entity are:

    • commitment of leaders

    • legal structure / institutional framework

    • civic engagement / behavioral change

  • The power of citizen participation

  • The importance of making behavioral change visible

  • We act according to what others do,

  • It is in our interest to live without corruption,

  • The benefits it would bring us,

  • There are more of us who want to live without corruption,

  • It's something that is built.
